Jack Bailey aims for a triumphant return to SoBo : RacingJunk News

March 29, 2006, Cornelius, N.C. - Cornelius, N.C. - It's been more than five years since Jack Bailey has raced at South Boston Speedway, but he's eager to return to the track and turn his first official laps in a Hooters Pro Cup Series car.

The 23-year-old Stafford, Va., native said he feels more prepared for his Northern Division run than he has ever felt before the start of a racing season. And that's saying something. Though this is Bailey's first year driving the No. 93 Ford for Randy Humphrey Racing, he's been racing somewhere ever since he was 10 years old.

The No. 93 team tested at South Boston earlier in March, but Bailey said he and crew chief Robert Huffman decided to forgo more tests in favor of getting the car in perfect shape, and lining up a great pit crew. "The team is really excited about getting the first race under our belt," Bailey said.

If pit stops go well, and qualifying goes similarly smooth, Bailey thinks his team will run up front on Saturday.

"God willing, and everything goes our way, we feel like we can run in the Top 5, Top 10," Bailey said. "I'm excited, and I really look forward to running this year."

The young driver said Huffman and car owner Randy Humphrey, both racing veterans in their own right, have been good influences on him. The Christian men have provided exactly the guidance Bailey needed as he moved to a new place and began racing in a new series. He split time between Late Model racing and a stint in NASCAR's Craftsman Truck Series last year, but he's glad to be able to focus on the Pro Cup now. "I needed to come down here and get a fresh start, so to speak," Bailey said.
